Hello fellow CryEngineers,

Today we want to announce that we want to extend the news team by three people and we're looking for eager and awesome people to join the ranks on the CryDev staff team!

The requirements:

  • Time - at least one day per week.
We work in days, I expect the staff to have an assigned post finished on a fixed day so it can go live on time. Therefore you need to have time to research and write your post. The positions to be filled are on Tuesday, Friday and on Sunday, that means you'll need time before that day to write the post.

  • Forum activity - you must be up-to-date
You should be aware of what's happening on the forums and check them daily. This is also very important to get the latest news from the rest of the staff team. I don't refer to active posting, it is also okay if you lurk a lot.

  • Skills with the CryENGINE or similar - you must know what you write about
Writing a news article will often require you to further look into the matter. If you are given little content to write about, you can then hint at the awesome parallax occlusion mapping in the images and a quick link to a tutorial you may have found elsewhere. All directions are welcome: Coders, Level Designers, 3D modelers and so on.

  • Very good English - you must know how to express yourself.
Self explanatory, isn't it? We want you to write posts that people want to read. You should be able to add a little character to the text and give it its very own taste. We represent the CryENGINE indie development scene, so it should taste delicious!

  • Politeness - you get to moderate the forums after all!
You should be able to express yourself politely, but clear to forum users. You will also be a moderator of the forums, therefore l33t sp33k, flaming and trolling should be avoided.

Some frequently asked questions:

I am going to have exams at some point in the future, is that bad?
No it isn't! We do understand that people have real-life things to deal with. You can take a time-off during that time. But you'll have to notify your lead (me) or one of the administrators (Adam, Ruan) first. Otherwise we'll think something happened to you or you don't like us anymore and that's bad.

Do I have to move to Frankfurt?
What? No. The role can be done from the comfort of your own home!

Do I receive anything?
Yes, lot's of unconditional love, help from experienced staff colleagues in regards to game development, a close connection to the community management at Crytek and a nice Skype group conversation where we will help you out with pretty much everything. If you don't care about that, you'll probably receive things like gifts, merchandising and similar after doing a lot of good work as well.

And that's about it. If you have any other questions, feel free to post them in the comments and if you're interested in joining, send me an email to liamhurst at googlemail.com and explain why you would fit into our team (refer to the requirements!).

Best wishes,
Liam
