the only thing new with unreal is particles can be lit.
pretty cool but nothing revolutionary by any means.

And the CUDA support for true volumetric particles rather than just sprite based ones.

yes so the particles are the news really but seeing what Cuda based PhysX is doing now with non procedural destruction we will see some new features that have not been shown yet but will the little guys like us get them probably not :(

Epic's new game FortNite PC exclusive and running on UE4. I love the art style here.

Fortnight looks nice, the art style reminds me of Team Fortress 2, and the game concept has its roots in Minecraft and tower defense. Seems altogether derivative, but great fun!

It looks really nice, just my kind of game, but imho not really showcasing UE4 graphic capabilities.

It might be interesting because one of the main failings of minecraft imho is that there is no real danger after the first night. You build a two block high mound of dirt and you're safe from everything forever.

Well the trailer you see now was developed on UE3 the news is that they just switched to 4. So we are yet to see the updated version of the game.

Could use some serious Tessellation (for smoothing).

I agree but they are obviously going for a stylized look and not pushing Unreal for a graphical revamp my expectation are it will not change that much switching engines

yeah, Fortnight may look comparatively simple and stylized, at this development stage, because they might be aiming for ALL platforms with the launch... the launch emphasis may be towards UE4's ability to scale across all platforms (along with Kismet2.0, particles, and some limited graphics wizardry)

Further down the track, they'll probably make Fortnight (PC version) look a bit more spectacular later on though, with more tessellation and particles. just a thought :easter:

Or they just switched UE4 because it's faster to work with. And cheaper.

I just want to see one of these stylized games done in a fully tessellated world -- no hard poly edges + hand drawn textures would be absolutely amazing.
