Agree, but what I meant to say is that ''there is the possibility to mod the game, so why not do it?''.. I'd also like those freaking CVars to get unlocked, let's see if Maldo can do anything with them in the next update. :(

yes there is possibility to mod it. And i'am happy we can, no doubt about that
But when you was used to Crysis / Wars modding, you only can be desapointed how they lock the modding, and more when you see how the Free sdk SB3 have a lot nice thing, and you cant enjoy the best SB3 AND mod Crysis2. that's so frustrating.

Well if maldo find a way to hack this locked game and use the locked Cvar in SP mod, it would be really nice.

because finaly C2 "modding" = making map....
-Cvar lock, cant make a lot of change from the default setting
-No game code, cant see excelent new things
-FG more limited than Crysis / Crysis Wars, no FG plugin, only node can be made with LUA = limited ability...

Well !

But that anticheat cost in the modding side...they should copy the Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars shipping model...That was a good package...

I hands down agree with this. Crysis 2 definitely wins in the visual aspect. However, there were some scenes in Crysis that truly did look photorealistic, whereas Crysis 2 never quite achieved that, and had a bit more stylization.

I enjoyed Crysis 2 for the weapon mechanics, and the feel of the environments - as they felt meatier, and more realistic in a way. The story was much more in-depth, and the game felt more like it was driven by the plot than its predecessor. Of course, the downside was the lack of "open world" gameplay that many liked about Crysis 1.

Its all about personal preference, but I liked Crysis 2 for the more in depth plot, and meatier feel to the game-play. Each has its good stuff, and its bad mind.

And yeah I still think that Crysis 2 had better overall graphics Post DX11/Texture Res pack than Crysis 1, though it never felt as large scale and free as Crysis 1. So people misconstrued this as being less visually impressive, but in reality all the better features and tessellation made significantly better up close detail possible.

I HATE it when people don't take everything into account when looking at graphical quality, and a lot of people here do that way too much.

Even on low CE3 is more technically capable than CE2. But the art direction in Crysis 2 isn't nice to look at.

Art direction is one of Crytek's fault.
Crytek depends on graphics technology very much.

yeah, on a few levels, including graphically, they went for a more 'gritty' experience with Crysis 2... but it just wasn't as much fun as Crysis 1.

I had the same feeling when I compared GTA 4 (gritty, grim, not fun) with GTA Vice City (tons of fun).

yes, there IS room in games for realism, art, storytelling etc. but there are downsides too. At this time, there is a lot of interesting experimentation about the role of stories in games (Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex 3), and a move towards 'seriousness' (GTA 4, Crysis 2) and a counter-movement away from 'seriousness' (Duke Nukem, Bulletstorm).

Honestly though, you know, I support gaming becoming a 'serious' art medium. But I personally get enough gritty urban experiences in my day-to-day life, and Hong Kong is a relatively peaceful place (thank heaven). For me, playing Crysis 2 and GTA 4 was just plain unpleasant, though many people may have enjoyed themselves heaps.

It depends on what you're looking for in a game.

Some play games to escape real life (because they ''need'' to), others because they have got nothing to do (because they ''don't know'' what else to do), others to relax/have fun/spend some time and on a virtual world (because they ''want'' to) and others to please watching graphics tech. advancement... I think there's hardly a winner as you might want to pick the best game of the three depending on the mood of the day. :)

of course, everyone has their preferences! What I'm saying is that imho a few BIG follow-up titles like Crysis 2 and GTA 4 became too a bit too dark and serious,... just an opinion.

Of course, Crytek have just released Fibble, which looks really bright and breezy :easter:

Games like Crysis is never going to make games a serious medium. It's hard to get more juvenile. It's really fun juvenile but juvenile nonetheless. Crysis is like a dumb action flick with too many effects, fun , but hardly a representation of the artistic merit of the medium.

In general, it can be trusted that if something is "gritty", "serious" and "realistic" it is the opposite of mature. Tho some games embrace their silly nature (vice city is a good example!)

If you're looking for a really serious fps game try arma. It's quite possibly the most mature handling of the FPS subject I've ever seen. Buggy as **** tho.

Well, isn't Far Cry 1 a great game, serious and such as well ?
A serious game doesn't have to be realistic anyway. :)

It's great but it's hardly serious. It's shooting monsters in a jungle for christs sake.

Yeah, that's right.
Arma is really a great game in my opinion too and got a special place in my heart with Operation Flashpoint, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon (yeah, of course the first ones of each series) though I don't know if they'd win against Sniper Elite and Far Cry.. all of those games got me so much fun it's hard to decide, though they are completely different games. :)

Realism vs Arcade, one of the most over-discussed subjects, ahah :)

It's not so much that arma is realistic and a sim. It's just that their setting and portrayal of the subject is very mature and relevant. It puts the role of the modern soldier in a new light and doesn't waste much time being hoorah macho.
