Post Topic: [DOWNLOAD] Recreation of beautiful FF XIV scenery (Eorzea) Posted 09.03.2010, 18:05 |
I decided to separate this map in two versions:- Best Visual Quality - A version that I'll use for the machinima / movie. Requires a really good computer to run it smoothly.
- Optimized Quality - A slightly different version in looks. It will feature gameplay, and will have better performance due to some small compromises in graphics.
=========================================================================== Original post =========================================================================== As I was watching Final Fantasy XIV trailer, I was immediately fascinated by the environment at 0:30 and 1:10. I'm not 100% sure but I think Eorzea stands for the name of the land. After watching the video I had an urge to recreate the scenery. So that's how this was born: Hope it's good since it is in very WIP status. I've been working on it only several hours. What you see here is only 1/64 of the whole map. I'll post some more screens later, after I work on it a little bit more. Some parts of the map will have to be created from imagination because camera FoV is very narrow in the video. I'd like to hear your opinions, feedback, critiques ... =========================================================================== End of the original post ===========================================================================

man, that would take me a whole day! Wow! It looks amazing, great job. It doesn't look perfect though, but I am in no place to critique since you took hours to make this and not days. I'll say what I always say for people that have these wonderful maps that look like something is missing: the ToD. You probably should focus on other stuff but making your map shine lies in the ToD. Can't wait to see what you'll come up a week or two from now
So.. wanna play online now?

Thanks man.
Yeah, I just wanted to show what I started with... that means it's faaaaar from done. I've set myself high criterion/limits.
The ToD was actually from another map, and not adjusted to this map at all. I just wanted to have some ToD other than default.
So... I plan to work on this map a lot. I will not make updates for every tiny little bit, but rather when you can see some bigger changes and improvements.
Any other suggestions?

Wow, this is some amazing work! The water reflections look realistic, so does the waterfall. Good job, keep up the great work!

Thanks everyone ) Here's my next update. What do you think? There's still a lot to do. I'd say it's about 20% finished. One more thing... Considering that performance is getting worse, I'm not sure if this will be suitable for singleplayer level. I might make a short film out of this - recreate the trailer or something...

Needs more rocks and terrain painting. Not bad so far. Keep working on it.

nice job! The mountain in the background is part of the skybox I suppose.. this looks really good! but make it a little bit more saturated so the trees don't look that dark but not too much so that the water looks too bright.
Anyway, awesomeness aside, where is the player.. you know, gonna actually... play?
So.. wanna play online now?

The mountain in the background is real-time, 3D. There'll be even more smaller mountains behind it. It's quite a big map actually.
The trees lost some colour because I used 'use terrain colour'. I can remove that, but then the trees are even darker... I didn't get the water part... it's to bright? ?(
About the player and the gameplay... I see that it's not the best map to play on, but I could figure something out - maybe... As I said the performance is getting worse, so this might turn into a short film/machinima. I'm not sure about anything yet.

Try changing the water fog color to something darker.
