Hi Gorea27

Well I am a long time fan of WarHammer 40k and I registered here exclusively as I found out that you are modeling a bolter.

I am atm learning Max 09 so I picked up WarHammer 40k as a theme to practice and improve my skills on.

I know you have almost finished modeling but just for the sake of it I thought this one ref image might help a lot regarding proportions.

The Inside of the barrel is to thick

and Bolters can also have scopes, Genade launchers and SoB Bolters have longer barrrels (like the one u got here)

The barrel needs to be shorter

and if your going to do a lasgun i suggest you look at guard codex
"duty and honor" is writen on the side so you know ur looking at right one there is a bit at hte back with varrents of lasguns for each differnt guard type (with the solder as well)

and to aviod the leagla just dont us the Imp eagle (copy righted) and say that is a Genade launcher

Nice model mate, though the handle seems like it's using lots of polies.

Thank you.

The handle does take up alot of polies. But only because I accidentally beveled it too much. But I am getting rid of the wasted polies. I forgot where the 'optimize' button is, so I am doing it by hand though..

just remember that polies, and triangles are different. the important count is triangles, since the game engine breaks the model down into the smallest components possible (triangles). whereas a polygon can have an unlimited number of sides (polygon meaning many sides).
