 Post Topic: Thorsell's custom props
PostPosted 21.04.2009, 14:39
And in other news...
I've recently started working with XSI Mod Tool a little, the plan is to try to make custom props with working textures to import into Sandbox2. I've completed a few tutorials and I feel like I'm getting to understand the basics now. The reason I've started using XSI Mod Tool instead of SketchUp (as I did before) is that the texture support for SketchUp is seemingly too poor. I'm planning to make some of my own custom textures from photos I'll be taking myself (I own a digital SLR camera and a tripod).
I'll probably be focusing on simple models, like low-poly buildings etc. If the props are good enough, I'll release them to the community. Also, I plan to make small tutorials along with the prop creation to make it easier for others who want to achieve similar results.

I will be using this thread for getting answers to problems that'll appear and to show pics of my progression. I will not make requested props as I am not yet familiar enough with XSI Mod Tool (so please, don't ask).

A few questions:
1 - How do I set the units in XSI Mod Tool to a unit that works well in conjuction with Sandbox2? I would prefer metric units if that is possible to avoid scaling errors when exporting.

2 - Where can I find the plugin enabling exports to the proper Sandbox2 formats? I downloaded XSI Mod Tool separately (not the SDK Bundle with all the neccesary plugins included).

More questions will probably arise later on.
Feel free to comment, I would like some feedback on this idea.

Hi there mate. Sounds like you have a good plan there. As for scale a unit of 1 is like 1m in sb2 so if you make a cube and set it to 1 it will be one m cubed. As for the exporter just look in the XSI forum there is a lot of good stuff hidden in there ; ) ( also might pay to post xsi questions there and leve this thread for your WIP's)
Good luck and hope to see some stuff from you soon. : )

Thanks for the quick reply Bjemo! I'll take a look in the XSI forum for the plugin.
