Post Topic: M4a1 (first 3d model trying to be as accurate as possible) Posted 09.05.2009, 08:11 |
This is my first model ever and I am going for accuracy. It probably won't be done for a while but I'm eventually going to finish it and hopefully get it ingame. I just wanted to make an accurate m4a1 since I never see one that has everything modeled correctly. Right now the left side is around 70% complete so I'm going pretty slow since I just started learning 3ds max. Let me know of any really good modeling tutorials or tips that I could use to save time and finish this faster.

I finished the barrel and added a little more details to the left side of the receiver. I also have most of the magazine done. I did not model the RIS or front sight yet, those are just for reference (someone else modeled them) and to give you an idea what it will look like. By the way, I probably won't have this model done for about another month cause I am still learning how to model so I am pretty slow.

Looking good, will be interesting to see how this turns out
There are quite a few good (and accurate) M4A1 models on this site. Out of curiosity why do u have another mesh that you are remodelling from?

I modeled the receiver and barrel using reference pictures from a replica I have. As for the ris and frontsight, I am gonna use those for reference so I can get the small details right. I also used it so you all could get an idea of what it will look like when I am done. Also, I haven't seen any m4a1 models that are really good that can be downloaded right now. I know you made one but it won't be released separately from Cryrecon right? Oh yea when I am finished with the model, I'll release the files so anybody can try texturing it and getting it in game. I'll try to do it myself but I'm sure someone else could do it faster.

It is looking good. Just be careful that the polycount doesn't get up to some ungodly high number.

I finished the pistol grip and connector plate/piece for the stock. I also added some detail to the muzzle. Now I need to make the actual stock and finish the right side of the receiver.
