Post Topic: Temple of Bacchus [WIP]
PostPosted 02.05.2011, 20:42
It must be over a year since I last made a thread on this site, but the launch of Crysis 2 has given me the inspiration to start modelling again.

I am currently designing a temple dedicated to the god Bacchus, god of wine and intoxication. It is also designed to be a restraunt/nightclub so that people may get drunk in honour of Bacchus. In the future I will add tables and chairs in the side loggias, and maybe add an interior.

I have decided to use the Tuscan order of columns as you will see below, not for any particular reason other than that I love tuscany.

Bear in mind that it is still not finished yet, I am using this thread to motivate myself to keep at it.

This is interesting! A good start you made there.

Finish this model and make a multiplayer level with it being the center! :)

looks great!
just a note..would keep the columns as separate models..that way if u put an occluder in the walls of the temple the DP and triz won't be off the chart ;)

Thanks for the feedback!

But Bladestar, I am still quite new to the modelling scene and dont really know what you are talking about. I will make the columns seperate anyway though.

A great start-I'm partial to any sort of classical ruins myself. :)

You've likely seen this already, but the Temple of Bacchus in Baalbek, Lebanon is extremely well preserved and is a great example of this type of building. Again, you may not elect to use since you're already so far into that particular style of the temple, but I figured I would show you anyway.

I've been there, and let me say that it's a very well preserved piece of Roman architecture. If you decide to incorporate details of this and need more specific details, I might have some pictures in my own collection that could help potentially.

Anyway, whether you to decide to incorporate that or not, I'm looking forward to this being ingame. Good luck, and I'll be sure to follow this project!

I think he was aiming for that building, maybe restored, but it says in the title of the thread that it is that building.

PS. Yay another person on Eastern Time!!!!

Thanks for the reference Arabian Knight. My main source of reference is the Maison Carrée in Nîmes, it's one of the best preserved temples I've come across.

To da3dsoul, I should point out that this model isnt a replica of any existing temple, rather a modern building inspired by classical architecture.

Thanks to everyone for the interest, I should have the roof completed over the weekend, then its just a case of adding little details and it should be finished.
