Post Topic: Softimage|XSI: Crytek Addon Beta 3.2 available
PostPosted 09.05.2008, 23:30
Greetings Community!

Our Art Production Manager Michael "Emil" Endres has been working on a new Crytek Addon version for the XSI Mod Tool together with the guys from Softimage.

Please keep in mind that this an intermediate unsupported version for you to test. In the case you encounter any issues please report them directly here in this thread, so we can fix them for an official release.

Features:
  • Fixed: Broken Vista support for exporting from exporting XSI into Sandbox2 Editor
  • Allows only static objects to be exported at the moment
  • Added realtime display mode: seperate RGB vertex color channels (platform independet) for foliage setup
Tutorial - Detail Blending for Vegetation
There is a tutorial available for 3DSMax that is about Detail Blending which you can find here. It should work with XSI as well.

Coming Next...
Currently we are working on finalizing this version and get rid of the remaining bugs. In addition we are currently working on animation support for XSI. So stay tuned for more information!

Enjoy and report back feedback please :)

Great! Might wait for some comments on stability etc. before downloading, but I must say that XSI is currently the king of modding :D

finally some sweet xsi lovin :)

but the 3dmax tutorial isnt quite that helpfull becuase the way xsi handles and stores the vertex colors is totally different (not to mention the different names of the buttons and tool windows )

this requires a proper xsi tutorial

Yes, the manual for CE2 is too Max specific. They should hire some who knows how to use at least 3 of the leading programs to make these tutorials more universal. And they should all be video tutorials with voice narration. Actaully making a video tutorial can be faster than preparing a written document which is why I'm so confused why they dont' make then vid tutorials.

Crytek and ourselves are trying to provide some more tutorials, as quick as we can, but unfortunately it does take time, especially when the exporter is still only Beta and something could break, whilst your actually trying to video it. As much as I would like to do more of this work, I often have to do my other Softimage work, and its not as easy as it sounds to just hire someone.

I also prefer video tutorials, but these can actually take time to get right as well. It can be very hard sometimes to talk clearly, and use the app, without fluffing your speech. :) lol

I had been doing some more video tutorials myself up to about 2 weeks ago, but I have been unwell and so this work had been sidelined. But I hope to be able to pick this work up again next week and get some new vids posted.

you have always been able to make occlusion proxy, you just have to name the parts correctly, and apply the CryShader in the right way.
I will try and add this to any new videos.

@Kay_Eva
Nice try :) but we do not barter for tutorials this way. Any of our released tutorials are normally produced by ourslelves and/or jointly with our technology and eductation partners, who are all officially certified. By doing this, it enable us to maintain a level of quality, which then gives people like you, the end user, confidence in the training material.

Of course there's nothing stopping you producing your own tutorials for this site, as many others have done. There are some really good ones in the Crymod tutorial threads.
