I find making detailed terrain with good erosion and such is a little difficult. Anyone know of some free tools?(not demo's)
And should be able to make a heightmap of 2048x2048+.

I like WorldMachine, the free version gives relatively low-res maps (513*513 max, odd size, but hey :p) but with some Photoshopping you might be able to get a somewhat decent result out of it.
