Hey CryDev Community,

First tutorial here on how to get Mannequin up and going with a ledge grab also for kicks. Sorry about the no sound video, I don't have a mic but will try to get one later.

http://www.mediafire.com/watch/j62ztrk4h0v7u8d/Mannequin-Startup_and_ledge_grab.m4v

That link also has a download button if you wish to watch it later.

Certain things to Note:
1. Since there is no Controller Definition Editor we have to create that manually as you saw in the beginning. I used all the default Scopes names (Fullbody3P) , all the default context names ( Char3P ). The context name is really important since that's probably what's in the code by default, if you don't use that name the game will crash.

2. We also created the Preview file for Mannequin manually but that comes after we create the Controller Definition, Tags and Fragment files.

3. When you create tag files, the name of the file always has to end with "Tags". Reason being is that the Tag Definition Editor won't be able to read it if that part isn't there.

4. Remove all your weapons as I just did later in the video or else the game will also crash since if you are using a custom character.

5. We also use the default Fragment names such as MotionIdle, MotionMovement, ledgeGrab, etc... since that's probably what's in the code by default or else your character won't move.

Hope you enjoy the video.

I don't always have internet access and when I do, it is really slow. One of the reasons I haven't been on CryDev a lot. That's why I upload all my videos to MediaFire, not only that it makes it easier for the team I'm in since they get first dibs on the video and can just download to watch later.

So techdude I have a question. All is good on the mannequin front and I have the chr in and everything fine. My main query here is how exactly do I export the animations into .caf files since the .cba seems to be nowhere. They seem to run things differently but the esporter (maya) keeps barking back saying that it wants the cba. I mean I can jimmyrig the export and do it on the 3.4.5 build and copy the cafs over. Is that what you did. Know you have done the Rayman thing for some time now so I can only figure that is how you avoided the problem. I am all ears...

Well right now we are using 3ds Max, not sure how to do this in Maya. All the animations export fine along with the i_caf files. Are you using the new exporters?
