Post Topic: Crysis 2 shadows = bad
PostPosted 27.06.2012, 11:59
So I was making a level the other day, just for fun, when I realized, that the Crysis 2 shadows are not really shadows. They're completely lit and when being indoors while at night, it just doesn't feel right. So I tweaked some settings and finally got what I wanted, dark shadows.
ATTENTION: Huge amount of images ahead.

BTW, can someone tell me, what are these red things in the left upper corner...

And sunrises feel a lot more beautiful now too.

As you see, even at day, some places in indoors that are not lit, are completely dark.

I'd say pretty good, compared to that it's my 3rd day using Cryengine...

So tell me, what you think?

I'd say that completely dark interiors during daylight isn't very realistic or good-looking. There should be some more ambient light around when the sun is shining and the sky is bright. ;)

Well this is sunrise, at midday, it's pretty light, indoors are 80% lit too.

This is just your ToD problem. You must adjust it.

Shadows are reasonably good. I think what you mean is ambient. Crysis 2 has a few tools for controlling that, visareas or whatever they're called allow for dark interiors with their own lighting seperate from the outside ambient. You can see in for example the docks level they have seperated the starting area from the docks to make it dark, and then faked the GI.

In my opinions this looks really nice. Any way of you making it public?

Greetings

I actually want to make a thriller/horror mod out of it. :P
Maybe even an RPG game, but I'll think about it...
