Updated the thread today, and cleaned it up a bit. All the work can be seen on the first page.

Someone knows how to make thumbnails? the post gets so long with big images.

This is very fascinating! I'm trying to do this too.

I've no idea how to import the object position and material.
How do you import the building in to Cry engine, as a whole or piece by piece?

Well I do the whole level in sketchup and export everything as a layer. So the position is kept for all the individual files. Also the PlayUp origin can be displaced from the CryEngine origin according to your wishes. Also materials are exported. There are many good sketchup tutorials on this forum.

Thank a lot!

It seem there's a good workflow from SketchUp. I've search for SketchUp in the forum and there're 2109 matches WHOAA. It's ok to muddling to it.

Also, I've downloaded PlayUp and did some basic box export, no texture is coming out with it. Do you have suggestion for me where should I started ?

There is a search function on the upper right corner, it's not the best, sometimes it's better to use google and add crydev infront. :)

And use Paint.Net for editing textures, it can even save DDS that work nicely, use DXT5 when saving DDS for it to work in CE3. Make sure to work with power of two textures for no clipping in the export process. (512, 1024, 2048.. etc)

I have also been playing around doing the Therme Vals scene in Blender Game Engine.

BlenderArtist thread: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthr ... ive-Design

The deadline is 26 of January so I will soon finish the model and make some comparisons between CE3 and BGE for you all! :P

The advantage in Blender is that I can apply multiple UV mappings, and bake ambient occlusion and lights and efficiently blend the textures together with the original texture that was applied in the CAD/BIM software.

The fact that I bake the lights have three advantages over Cryengine:
1) Lights are much more realistic, especially the diffuse indirect light.
2) The specs of the computer needed to run the scene are much lower. I tried it on my classmates crappy laptops and they get 60 fps.
3) The filesize is about 20-40 MB for the finished project (this test 20mb), which means it can be published in the web-browser using the Burster plugin. http://geta3d.com/

Now I have a question for all you Crydev guys:

Since I have a building using tiled diffuse textures with a specific UV mapping, but the AO is another 4k image mapped to the entire building in a separate UV, in Blender I can blend the different textures, but how would I go about using the AO and Light textures in Cryengine? Can I blend textures in this way, or do I need to bake the mix of the different textures to each face?

So I finished the Therme Vals model, but in the end I used Blender Game Engine for the project. However now you are welcome to download the blend and get busy importing it to Cryengine! I will play with it later!

I started doing the lighting set-up in Cryengine 3. As long as you have artificial lighting there is no problem making it realistic in CE3. The problem is when you are doing a natural graduation from sunlight to a dark interior. That is when baking is much better. But now, since the artificial light is dominating you just have to get that right. I think I have to export the model again, there was something wrong with the lightbulb material.

You can compare this to my current update using Blender Game Engine, which at the moment, I have less difficulties to control.
