Post Topic: Dead Space environment [wip] Posted 24.06.2012, 17:27 |
Hi! I'm currently working on a Scifi environment for fun/portfolio and thought it might be a good idea to share it here and maybe get some feedback. My main focus is on the art so the actual level design is not too fleshed out and kept pretty basic. For the design i'm using using many different concepts i've collected during research, but most of them are from Dead Space. Also a lot of inspiration comes from Ben Procter's work on Avatar. So basically it's a little bit from everything mixed with my own ideas and influences. To do list: - Ceiling - Doors - Stairs - Lamps - Finish textures, decals - Polish materials setup - Lighting - Particles - Probably a couple more props like consoles/lockers etc. - Props for the waiting lounge When the corridors are done, i'll start working on a waiting lounge with benches, plants, luggage laying around etc. Something like this: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... ounge1.pnghttp://www.cinemablend.com/images/galle ... 196956.jpgOk enough of text already This is the basic layout, the image is a little older. I already changed some things like corridors being to wide: Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Looking very nice, it's quite a bit more colourful than the Dead Space references. Materials are already looking solid, although it all has quite a plastic feel... Still looks artificial, like a video game and not like a real-world space station if you know what I mean. The lighting is very moody though.

Very good work, But I do agree with DURL. Some more specular clarity and detail would be very good. Perhaps a higher resolution specular map would do it more justice if your downsizing it.

looking good so far although your lightning is quite off if your aiming for a "Dead Space" ambiance (or where you more referring to the actual architecture rather than the atmosphere/lightning etc. ?)

Thanks everyone for the feedback, much appreciated! Maybe I'll do an engine room and apartments with carpets later CDeniz - I just turned off all the sun light and then set up a couple of light entities. I recently read about vis areas for interiors which should be the proper way. I have to look into that later. the_grim - Thanks! I agree about the the materials, needs a lot of work! DURLI - Thanks for the suggestion, I'll work on the specular maps some more! themodman101 - Thank you for the feedback, I'm going to work some more on the spec maps. The textures are downsized a little, I'll see what i can do to make them better and use full res for the next update. MrDojo - Thanks! Dead Space is just the basic inspiration, I'm not really trying to replicate it exactly. So I'm taking my liberty here and there The main focus is to have the creepy atmosphere of an abandoned, chaotic space station which reminds the viewer of Dead Space. The lighting is very temporary, I'll work on it a lot more!

Absolutely amazing, I love the Dead space series. It is really the only game that has really focused on realistic habitable space environments. I love the idea of seeing more of this being created, I love the idea of Dead space environments on CE3!!!
