Post Topic: Unable to snap to vertices
PostPosted 13.03.2012, 02:12
Okay, I hate to constantly beg for help with problems, but I swear that I can't find any help on this via Google, and I admit that half of my problem is likely due to the use of Google SketchUp as opposed to a "real" 3D modelling program, but anyway...

I've built a bunch of wall models for my cathedral, and I've been positioning them by snapping them to each other's vertices, however, my curved section will not snap for some reason... Any ideas as to why this may be?

So far as I can tell, the models are identical in all aspects but shape... I'm using Google SketchUp and the Play Up exporter... I could upload the model, just need to know the file type that's best.

Thanks,
Mark

Snap is overrated! Why not manually place the corners? If you have thousands of curved sections and absolutely need snaps, try importing the file into a 3rd party software to inspect it. I am not certain how PlayUp sets up pivot points etc, so it may be an issue with the exporter. Export the mesh from CryEngine, in the File menu there is an option to export selected geometry as an OBJ. I'm curious to see how a mesh looks after its exported from SketchUp :P

I mean, if it is absolutely critical that you have snapping...you could try a different route for importing:
-Export an OBJ from SketchUp with the plugin (make sure you have the correct material folder afterward)
-Import the OBJ into Blender or 3dsMax and inspect/edit it.
-Use CryBlend or 3dsMax's CryEngine plugin to export your file to CryEngine.

I can't imagine snapping is worth all of that...

Best of luck,
Ben
