If you are having problems with the editor crashing when you go to change the textures I have a fix for you that doesn't require you to change the size of your text. What you have to do is

1. Go to material editor
2. Go to the material you want to use and click on it
3. In the texture layer editor, make a new layer
4. Click that layer as well
5. Click "Assign material" On the left panel on the layer editor

There you go. Hope this helped.
