!!Just to be clear: those videos are made with Unity 3d, not the CryEngine!!
The crowdfunding campaign is going on right now: http://www.igg.me/at/ghost-of-a-tale and with 23 days to go the campaign is only at about a third of the budget. So if you would like to give "Ghost of a Tale" a chance to exist, please go to this page and see if you can help...
Here's just a quick little turntable video to get a better view of the main character:
As I say in the video description, this model is a very temporary asset, so many technical things are not yet sorted out, among which:
- Cloth shader is extremely basic - Fur shader does not yet support self-shadowing or even cast shadows - Body texture and mesh are far from final (especially the feet!) - Etc...
Here's a better look at one of the undead rats. This is one of the more heavily armored ones. They're not very fast, but when they do hit you they can kill you with one blow. Compared to your small mousy self they are towering giants.
Again, this is just the game asset with basic Unity lighting directly within Unity, as it appears in-game. It is however still a work-in-progress, so it is likely to be improved before the game's release. Well, that is if the campaign can reach its goal of course.
Beware of the frogs!!!
And here's one scary monster; it's almost as tall as the undead rats and something tells me there's no negotiating with him either.
Since I know some of you were interested in the project, I'll post the news here: Tomorrow the crowdfunding campaign for "Ghost of a Tale" will go live!
I honestly have no idea what the reaction will be. Total indifference? Mild interest? Probably somewhere in the middle. The thing is I'm not really good at networking and I don't have personal contacts of video-game journalists. So I'll mostly have to fill impersonal forms on their websites. Which may or may not be picked-up depending on their workload.
So tomorrow I'll post the link to the gameplay video and to the campaign page itself. Then we'll see how it goes. As some of you might know, this game originally started as a CryEngine project. I switched to Unity, but since I haunted those forums for quite a while posting updates on the game, I thought I owed it to you to keep you guys in the loop...
Now I'll do a couple of similar posts on some other forums to try and spread the word...
Cheers, Seith
___________________________________________________________________________ Original message: !!Those original pictures were made with the CryEngine and DO NOT reflect the current state of the game as it now runs on Unity 3d!! By now I'm pretty sure everyone in this community has forgotten about "Ghost of a Tale" (which started as a mod for Crysis), but I'm still working on it...
Except this time it's on the CryEngine 3 and it's not just a mod but a prototype for a game. I don't want to show too much yet, so this is just a little glimpse. But I think it conveys the mood I'm shooting for.
It takes a lot of time and energy to develop, since so far I'm doing everything myself and I've had to create tools and pipelines, as well as temporary assets and animations. But it is quite fun.
Thanks guys. Yes, the video apparently used a small excerpt of a music that is copyrighted by Sony and YouTube doesn't have the rights to broadcast it within certain parts of the world. So as much as it grieves me, I have had to replace the wonderful original soundtrack with a different music.
It doesn't convey quite the same mood unfortunately, but at least the video should be visible by everyone now.
