Hello, this is SAGA, my current and only project. I am one person at the moment but hope to one day have a few folks on board with me. I have created this topic to show off my work as I go. I will update as soon as I have new work to add, but I am in no hurry, I can only accomplish one thing at a time. So anyhow I hope snag your interest. Remember to click the option to be alerted with new posts if you want to keep updated. Thanks folks :-D

Deep in the cold emptiness of space, time seems to stand still. The lack of day and night plays tricks on you, and if left unchecked, even the strongest mind will cave, giving way to unfettered chaos. A man who has gone beyond the fringe of his own sanity is a danger to himself and to anyone in his company. The forces from beyond the void beckon us. Sweet are their songs and great are their promises, but be weary of them, for they bring nothing but pain, nothing but misery.

The wounds of the past are deep, and wretched are the claws that rendered them. Often I wake sweating, gasping for air, clutching at myself in reassurance that I am still alive....still sane.....for I have seen things that no eyes should see and I have done things that can not be forgiven. Soon young one....so shall you. The time of the great Saga is upon us and our people will know suffering once again.

You will find no quarter! No gods will come to aid you for they too know fear and have fled the realm of mortals.

*************************************************************************

SAGA is a SCI-FI/RPG set in a galaxy where magic and technology have grown together in harmony for thousands of years and have now been disrupted and plunged into chaos. This game will incorporate great story telling in a compelling universe rich with diverse races, cultures, environments, and architecture.

These images are of a Zbrush creature I have been working on. The first was a rough idea I outlined on paper and the second is a reformed and finished bust of the creature. This is my first Zbrush model so feel free to leave any tips or constructive criticism. I havent a clue how to make eyes  Thanks

Nice to see people trying to sculpt, I only use it for weathering objects.
Sounds like the intro of final fantasy 6, if you've ever had the joy of playing that :P

But what are you trying to make? a sort of mass effect environment travelling to different planets?

The first ZBrush model, and especially sculpt you ever make, will most probably look like s*it. And yes, I'm saying that's what I think it looks like.

But don't take this the wrong way, that's quite a common way to start (I've made some really, really ugly stuff, and at the time, I thought it looked just fine), the better you get the higher your standards get, and as a beginner one shouldn't expect too much from oneself, yet.

So basic advice, use references of similar creatures, practice anatomy(yes, even for aliens :P), work hard, get better. Also, some beginner advice on ZBrush, work on lower detail levels for as long as possible. In general, a critical eye can help a lot, again, references come in handy. Some people get good really fast, most don't.

On the idea as a whole, huge ambitions for a one-man team. Saying you have lots of time just basically means you're not working hard enough (yes, seriously). If you want to make a game, then you need to spend time, and loads of it, it is basically impossible to have much time.

Anyways, good luck, hope you get some the project going, and all the way to the the most important goals :)

I hope I wasn't too offensive :P I tried to keep it nice as I usually suck at giving criticism nicely :puppy:

Hey guys thanks for the comments. :)

@paperclip

I have played a lot of the final fantasy series but sometime theres a mix up of what number they are in regards to japanese versions and american versions. I have played american versions 1-3 and 7,8,10, and about 10 hours of 13 but then I sold it cause I thought it was crap. Anyhow I will try to find the one you are talking about :)

@vabg

I absolutely take no offense at your comment man. I think you are honest and straight forward. As to the quality of that model I am happy with it in the sense that I had a reference and a goal to complete it, but as far as it looking its best? No way lol. I have seen far too many profesional works to even begin comparing myself to that level of skill. Also I would like to thank you on your advice and encouragement, I definatley spent way to much time with that model on a higher sub D level. In the end I had it jacked up to lvl 8 and it was running at 25million polys which really slowed me down. On top of that I am still new to polygons and how they work so because of that I severley ruined the topology of my model in the first 2 or 3 sub D's and it only made it more painful to model in good detail at the higher levels. Anyhow lesson learned and the internet is my friend so I will definately be searching for more tutorials and the like in regards to anatomy and proper topology and modeling tecnuiqes.

Again thanks for your comments, I will be doing a humanoid bust today and I will post pics when I am finished with it. Hopefully I will show a little improvement with my next model!! :cheesy:

Wow, I use zbrush and I don't generally even need to go this high. Spend a lot of time on the low poly base, make sure the proportions and topology are perfect before you move on. Also make sure you get better definition with details, your sculpt looks too blob-like. Try using things like alphas to get things like scales or scratches. lastly keep switching between sub div levels and constantly rotate your object to make sure it looks good from all angles!

Hey thanks for the advice man. I actually am working on learning anatomy right now and also keeping the sub divs down. This skull im working on is 4 divs and I have only been working within the bottom 3 so far. I have definately already noticed that the lower the division the more control you have to the major shapes of your model. I think like a previous guy said, that i should learn the anatomy of things before I really start going wild, it will be a good foundation and I will learn anaotmy AND modeling in the process.

With the previous one I kept jumping up levels while I was simply forming the basic shape, lol, total mistake. Funny too because almost all the bumpiness of that model was brom the "blob" brush HAHA. Anyhow thank you for your advice, I really am trying to listen to you guys, I appreciate any knowlege I can garnish from people with experience. Cheers!

Still, what sort of game are you trying to make?
your intro story sounds like a dramatic version of FF6's intro, up to where terra's slave crown gets removed like 10 minutes into the game, but anyway do you have an idea of what you want to make, or are you just making assets and throw them together at some point?

Well without actually filling this thread up with my writings ill try to break it down as best I can.

As far back as written history goes (within the game universe), there was a catastrophic event that nearly wiped out ALL of existence across the entirety of the universe. Since this event left so few survivors across such a large span of the universe, the only remains of its story had been passed down through the generations via stories through all walks of life. Every planet that harbored survivors has passed this story along though there peoples history. Given that this event happened sooooo long ago the facts about it are shrouded in mystery and the embelishments of the story tellers.

Before the catastrophy technology was the fore runner of modern society. Technology had become so advanced that the people relied on it heavily as it was there source for everything they had come to know. Food, transportation, communication, power, and even life itself, allowing oneself to live far beyond the expiration date of an average life. The greatest minds of this age had brought numerous inovations to fruition. Technology had begun to grow exponentially and all seemed to be peacful in the verse. There was, however, one man who had grown hungry for power and that hunger would bring an end to life as most of the cosmos had known it.

Utilizing an almost endless bank account, countless years, and a vast resource of scientific minds, this man sought to open a portal to the very source of power that this once great civilization had harnessed to power all of its technology. This power, known as the Faze, was discovered only 2 millenia prior and was belived to be an actual leak in time and space. In the years that followed its discovery it had become the ultimate source of power for all life across every galaxy, and gave way to the invention of the Faze Gene, an injection given to a large number of people across the verse which allowed them to live for well over 600 years.

The power crazed man pursued this goal relentlessly for hundreds of years and then, it happened. Finally his team of scientists had cracked the myserious leak and sprung it wide open. What came next was unspeakable.

*****************************************************************************
And really, I would rather not speak about it any further than that (as far as what happens) because that is the basis of the game for the most part. I will however jump forward.
*****************************************************************************

So this vast civilization has been rebuilding, ever so slowly. Those who survived, and there offspring from then on, were known as the Children of the Wake. These people were altered. Something that had happened during the "event" had changed them and every living thing around them. Some people even began to do things they never imagined they could. Things that would usually requier some kind of technological device to accomplish. It was very random and at first no two people were alike. Some would walk on water, some would move things using only there thoughts. The source of these apperently random supernateral occurances were a mystery.

As time passed and the people recovered, so did some of there technology, although no where remotely close to its previous glory. The problem was that most of the survivors had no idea how to build what there ancestors had created. So they made due with what they knew, and what they could salvage. Through this period of growth they were able to use some of there devices to figure out what was goin on with these apperently gifted people. What they discovered was nothing short of amazing.

The "event" had left behind a significant amount of Faze energy. Far greater than what had been leaking through before. Somehow it fuzed itself to living organisms. Those who were injected with the Faze Gene had altered DNA that responded to the overload of Faze Energy in such a way that it allowed the individual to manipulate anything the energy fuzed with during the "event"

******************************************************************************
Blah blah blah, hence the people now have limited technology left over from the "event" and now pretty much "magic". So this is pretty much the basis of the story. Now its present time, civilization has completed a cycle once more and has disrupted the Faze Dimension putting all of the verse in grave danger once again. With the events in motion and a limited amount of time to save the universe the protagonist sets forth to uncover the secrets of the past in hopes to stop history from repeating itself.

I got a little carried away with the description, but trust me, its nowhere touching the surface of all that I have written lol. Anyhow maybe that sheds a little light on it for ya??

Thanks

I dont know what TL:DR means haha

I can see how youd make the comparison to x-men, but rest assured its not mutants with individual powers, but as per my description (which while long was done in a hurry) I was trying to explain that people were altering things on accident and had no idea how to control it. In the game though the protagonist is far enough into the timeline of things that people have taken time to understand these powers and with training and proper attention, anyone who has the Faze Gene can learn to harness the uniqe powers that it offers.

Anywho thanks for the enthusiasm, much appreciated :D
