Post Topic: Indie license release Posted 25.05.2012, 12:17 |
It would be realy important for our team to know when the Indie-license for C3 SDK will be released. We don't realy need a exact date, some informations like "Jan-Mar 2013" or "Q4 2012" would be enough.
We tested around with diferent engines for about some months. The C3 SDK would have the fastest and comfortablest development process in our case. Because we want start with the development the next weeks, we have to make a desicion for an engine now. We would realy like to work with C3 SDK, but without any infomation about when the indie-license will be offered, we have to choose another engine (in our case UDK).
Hope to get the information here. Thanks and kind regards.

You can develop the game for free, even if you want to go commercial later.

I'd read this somewhere here quoted "20% the revenue will be going to Crytek"

I've searched here in the forum already. But there isnt any information WHEN the indie license will come. As i said, a period of time when it will come, would be enough.
It would be stupid to choose CE3 SDK and start with the development process, if the indie-license would even never come or just too late for our scheduled game-release date.
We have a "small" budget that is already allocated for things like salaries, infrastructure, marketing ... . So it is not an option for us to pay for a commercial license.
If there is an official information about or some statement from a crytek staff, please let me know where i can find it. Answers like "it will come" "stay tuned" "i dont know, but ..." are not helpfull.

@EOA.Yting Yeah i read this few weeks ago. But i also read here in the forum that this Independent License, is not yet offered because they are still working out the terms or what ever. My question was: When will this license be available.
So i'm confused. If i dont get clear information about this indie license here, i think i will call CryTek next week and hope to get an contact person who will thoroughly inform me.

why don't use the time for polishing the game design? or Processing the licenses of the software that your team will be using so that your team will not violate any legal terms, just sayin' because you are creating a Commercial game. I hope Crytek give you all the info's you needed Just wait, have Patience and let your team get in touch flawlessly with the engine or Getting your Pipeline well Oiled, so that there's no problem will be encountered during the Production Period. am not that expert to say these things but Goodluck to your Team.

I'm looking forward to more details on the indie license as well, but also can't you submit your game to CRytek and they take 20%?

Contact Crytek Licensing at http://mycryengine.com for further details, they'll provide you with the info you need. Crytek will make an announcement when the Indie Licensing Deals are done.

As far as I know, Crytek don't take games externally.(correct me if I am wrong with that thing) Like what I've read somewhere in their sites. Specially when you're submitting an Idea or a Concept to them. They will return the mail to you unread.

@EOA.Yting This is not an hobby project, our experienced team work in fulltime. So we've already considered and bought the licenses of software we use in our development process. Also we've done the conceptual work for art, story, environment, project management etc. CE3 SDK is not the only engine that fit our requirements, but as i said befor, it would be the comfortablest in our case. We are a small new team, but not less professional. We just have to manage with the budget, so we prefer a royalty based license. But thanks for your well-intentioned advice ;-)
@hungoverontues Yes i find it realy confusing, too. The indie-license information from UDK are easy to find and clear to understand. CryTek only writes on "mycryengine.com" that there is a 20% license for commercial game. Nothing more. And when you search the forum, you finde threads where people and CryTek members talking about that this license is not available today but will be, somewhen in the future... So what are the facts now ? Is this license available? If not, when will it come? I need this information the next week so that we can slowly start the productiv work. As i said i will call CryTek next week. If i'm right informed its a german company, so maybe i get an german contact person. Its way easier for me to clear those things in german because thats my native language ;-)
I will check the following things for CE3 SDK indie license: - Is it available? If it is not, when will it be available? - Can we disable the login system for the launcher when we have the indie license? (Its impossible that we can NOT disable it with an license, but its better to ask than to find it out later) - Are there any license terms that we have to show logo/copyright etc somewhere inside the game that its based on the CryEngine ?
If i get the infos the next week i will inform you here. But if these information are confidential, you must call CryTek yourself ;-)

The Indie license terms and conditions is not finalized yet. But contact Crytek anyway.
There will not be a login system on a commercial license. That goes without saying. Have a look at Nexuiz. If a logo is required it will be stated in the contract between you and Crytek.

Yes it would be the best to clear these things directly with CryTek. I thought i ask here in the forum befor. Maybe there were information about and i just couldn't find or missed them. But thanks for all answers here.
Im sure our team will provide something back to the community if we decide to use the CryEngine. We have also read some tutorials and discussions here to figure out the CE3. Maybe you will see some tutorials or usefull tools from us in the future.
Good luck with all your projects.
