Post Topic: base character models free for use (no download yet) Posted 16.05.2012, 17:40 |
Ok, I've been working on some general use civilian character models and since I haven't found a team yet I'm just wondering if i finish them would anyone use them if i put up a download? So far there are eight diffrent people, I'm working on texturing and importing to ce3 now, ill work on clothes afterwords and I'm hoping to have 50+ diffrent combinations available in a month or two, I can post some pictures up here if anyone wants to see them, they're fully rigged and at some point I might release some animations if i can wrap my head around it they would be up, anyone could use them, credit would be appreciated but not required, and I'd be fine with them being used commercially. Would anyone be interested in them? Let me know! Toodles!

Yup, always nice to have some new assets, there aren't too many characters included with the SDK so some new NPCs would add some much needed variety.

Yeah. If you're okay with it, I'll use them as drivers in CryPod.

Hey man, sorry if I am intruding but I will do the same with my character model as he is just a test bed for rigging and stuff, just need to make a LP version of him!

Is it possible to use the default character animations with your characters?

Like the ones included in the example files of the freesdk? I'd have to change around some things with my models to make that work I think, but I could look into how they did it and see if its possible, would you like it to be able to do that?

That would be the best option, yes. Would be optimal if you could just switch an NPC model and it'll work with all animations.

Hi Andrew Gorman, If you want to use the default animations then ideally you need to rig your models to the agents skeleton an in the same pose otherwise you will have issues with the animations or at very least you need the same bone naming structure. I have manged to do it in the past. The only problem with using the sdk anims is you will have to replace these eventually if your game is gonna be commercial. Look forward to seeing your models.

Excellent point, so last call, should I make my own animations or rig them to fit the sdk's? I think custom would be the way to go, but if no one wants to use that then since I'm making this for the community they get the last say
