Going mobile is an incredibly exciting step for us as a game development company. The way that people play games on mobile devices is a real blessing. This allows us to get back to our roots, experiment and focus our energy on creating great gameplay experiences while still keeping Crytek’s high production values.

With Fibble - Flick ‘n’ Roll, Crytek is aiming to surprise people with a whole new style of game as well as to make a big impact in the field of mobile entertainment. It will also give us a great opportunity to make a big splash with a whole new generation of players who’ve yet to play a Crytek game. We ourselves love to play games on mobile devices and we very much look forward to bringing our production values and skills to them.

- Nick Button-Brown, General Manager Games at Crytek

Crytek’s first mobile game stars the cute but brave and curious extraterrestrial ‘Fibble’, who crash lands in a suburban home on Earth. In the crash, Fibble becomes separated from his crew. In order for the gang to return safely to their home planet, the player needs to help Fibble find and regroup his mates, by searching the mysterious location room by room.

This endeavour is not as easy as it sounds though, and throughout the adventure, Fibble will need all the help he can get from a crowd of Mini creatures that each possess a particular skill.

The rooms they are showing on the website don't look like they are making use of CryEngine3. So yeh I am hoping for some more exciting news related to Cryengine during GDC time.

So does this actually run on CE? If so, thats amazing.

Also if so, are we going to get an update to the SDK to let us make stuff for mobiles as well?

I think it is using Cryengine3 definitely, just the whole look of it, and perhaps that the ce3 logo is on the page, unless that's a standard.

It looks pretty good, would not have quite thought CE3 would be scaled down yet for mobile platforms.

GREAT to see that Crytex is getting into mobile dev... it is a strong signal that mobile capability will come to CE3, perhaps some time in 2012.

I think mobile platforms are not really good for gaming. If you say casual games, then its ok, but casual gaming is not really gaming. Its just a hokum where with you can sell other products, just like VGA cameras on cell phones. If you say you wanna play video games you think on at least 22" inches not on a thumb sized screen. Games are just like movies regarding this, from a more wide prespective theyre even more.

A casual game is still a game but just an other type.
And yes mobile platforms are not yet ready for hardcore games. I repeat, yet.
But have you seen the samsung slate 7, a tablet running window 7 and 8 because it has an i7 processor? Now think at the future of mobile platforms :D

Its not the hardware that limits, or at least not the computation power. Its the habits. Gaming starts at 22 inches. As I said its just like the case of movies. People dont really watch movies on iPod or such. Of course they are able to, but u dont see pepople making popcorn and sitting around an iPod that is as tiny as my schwang watching Harry Potter 25. This is just the same, who on earth will play Crysis 14 on a device that will be designed to be as small and lightwheight as mosquito, or on a tablet that is thin like a papersheet ? Of course you can design games for this purpose, hence casual games exist. The process that is going on is preety much like in the old days, when there was no television, and people used to go into a cinema to watch movies. Later on someone found out that making people just watch something is a big business, and wanted people to watch something whenever they can. So television was invented, TV Series, shows were born, etc ...that are also something you watch, but are not movies. Casual games are also something that you play with, but they are far away from real video games, because the experience they give is much lower, they just arent deep enough. Who play angry birds, or plants vs zombies are not really gamers, they are everyday people like your mom or pops who sit down and play 10-20 mins , and these games are not really valuable for those who play several hours a day, because these arent that deep. Of course its a lucrative market as well, because everyday people are large in numbers, but regarding this reason you could sell anything. Anything means anything really, just watch tele shop once, its just a question of marketing. People dont really need this, its just a fashion, something you can hype, like vga cammed phones and MMS once.

You are talking about hardcore gamers... but there are millions of softcore and casual gamers (as you say, everyday people) out there too playing Diner Dash, FarmVille, Angry Birds, Zoo Truck etc. Some hardcore gamers play these games too.

For sure, It is a different experience playing games on a smaller screen, or less powerful hardware, but it can still be FUN. Small screen gaming isn't a fad, I'm confident about that, its getting bigger, and there will be a convergence across platforms.

As the technology develops with screens embedded in glasses (especially) giving you a big-screen effect, pico projector screens (already embedded in some cellphone models), more powerful mobile devices etc. the mobile gaming future will be remarkable imho... although I REALLY like the power of PC gaming, and having a kick-ass system.

I didnt say that it isnt profitable, nay I said it is. But I dont call this real gaming, its only about that. I remember when I was a young boy ("...at the age of five"...wait..no I was a lot older then :D ) there was a tetris hype, a lot of 1$ production cost devices were sold at a 10$ price. Everybody had one, and within 1-2 years all of these landed in the garbage. Around that era (a bit later maybe) Age of Empires was also born. Its been about 15 years now, and people still play Age of Empires (most of them play AOE2 I think), because its a f..kin good game. Who plays tetris ? Noone... I dont say tetris is a bad game, or its not well designed or such, its just not that deep. Its fun to play, when you play it first, maybe on the first week you play it 1-2/hours a day, but very soon you will be bored after playing it 15 minutes. On the other hand people get sick playing AOE, I mean really, some become really addicted to it, some forget to drink to eat etc while playing.. you know what I mean ? Yeah it is fun to play mahjongs, hidden objcets also(to me for about 5 minutes :) ), but playing hardcore is passion, what casual gaming lacks, and IMHO real games do not exist without passion. If I play football, I do it with passion, if I play chess, I do it with passion, if I play holdem, its also passion. Everything else is nonsense to me, a food without flavor, a music without melody etc...
