The first Crysis 3 tech trailer is out now! This video captures some of the awesome features that are under the hood of CryENGINE 3 to help deliver the most amazing, visually captivating game we've developed yet. Crysis 3 is out February 2013 and is playable publicly for the first time at GamesCom 2012.



We'll have an un[youtube]compressed, 1080p version online for you soon but in the mean time, we hope you enjoy! Let us know your thoughts in the comments :)

I guess that average Crysis 3 level will have 30k of DP hm? ;)

If a frog is tessalated either :D

I saw this a few minutes ago, good to see another awesome tech video for CE3.

Do we have to collect all the Tessellated Frogs like in C1 for something awesome?

The frog is the best announce of technology from Crysis 3 ! "Frogger on Cryengine 3"

Thats just great, lol. I love that crytek put that in there. Plus the toad looks awesome too.
Now we just need accurate water physics. We'll be all set if we had that :P

well, among other terrain based things anyways.

Looks truly amazing! My favorite stuff is the cloth and vegetation physics, with particle lighting a close second (shadows casted by particle light sources? YEAH!).

Too bad we couldn't see the shadows with variable penumbra. Though the area/emissive lighting is a great addition. Oh, and those oustside-the-water caustics... I knew my eyes didn't fail me in that first C3 trailer.

A question though:

What do you mean exactly by "3rd Generation Real-time Global Illumination"? What's new?

I think alot of what we saw in that trailer can be achieved with Cryengine 3 SDK (no pun intended.)


What can't be done with currently available software is volumetric fog and clouds shadows. That is not in the engine yet. Probably a few other things.

But I know most of that can be done already. Like those real time area lights, I do that myself already. I have a monitor in my level with a screenshot of my desktop displayed with some glow tweaks, and then I setup a dynamic light in front of it with 160 degree fov and projected a highly gaussian blurred variant of the desktop screenshot. It gives off the same illusion of area light, but fakes it.
