Post Topic: What is Crytek Sofia Studio doing? o_O

I think most people are forgetting Sofia Studio of Crytek (former Black Sea Studio).

Crytek bought this studio in 2008 (4 years ago!!). This studio has about 50 employees.
Black Sea Studio was RTS developer. So we thought they might make RTS in those days.
But no info. Nothing. Thereafter, only once or twice to have seen the news about this studio.

What are they doing...? ?( ?( ?(

Wait -

Are these the same people that released Knights of Honor and World Shift?

Loved Knights of Honor - Would buy a Knights of Honor 2 if done right :)

Another small news about Crytek Black Sea (Sofia Studio)
Over 5 years passed since acquisition...

unannounced project. While details are scant, it sounds like it will be an online experience featuring rewards and quests.

In particular, they are looking for Game Designers who have, "at least 3 years of game development experience, with at least some experience on online projects" (emphasis ours).

Additionally, the listing states that the designer will, "design and implement large amounts of game assets: balance and tune items, rewards, quests etc."

Crytek Black Sea previously worked on Knights of Honor in 2004, and WorldShift in 2008. Both were real-time strategy games, as well as PC exclusives.

In August, Crytek registered the domain arena-of-fate.com, and filed a European trademark registration for "Arena of Fate." Interestingly enough, the French and Italian variants of the domains were registered under the GFACE GmbH organization, which operates the GFACE social games platform that Crytek's freemium games, such as the forthcoming Warface, are based on. Perhaps this could be Crytek's second entry into the free-to-play market?

I would posit that "Arena of Fate" is pertinent to the project being developed at Crytek's Sofia-based Black Sea studio. Since being acquired by Crytek nearly five years ago, there has been nearly complete silence about the activities of the studio, which previously developed the medieval RTS Knights of Honor and sci-fi RPG WorldShift. Last April, Crytek Black Sea studio head Vesselin Handjiev hinted on Black Sea's official forums that he "actually might have something to announce in the next couple of months"—a claim that never quite panned out.

A Crytek community manager confirmed last August that Crytek Black Sea was indeed working on an unannounced title. One November agency posting for a lead designer described Black Sea's project as an "Action MMO." Another lead designer posting through another agency asked for candidates with "A strong background in MMOs, Action/RPG games, MOBA games," and listed "[balancing] and [tuning] items, rewards, quests etc" among job responsibilities. "Arena of Fate" does very much sound like a potential title for a MOBA game, and the genre seems like a very natural fit for Crytek's next stab at the F2P model given current market trends.

I forgot other news. Very few though.

Hoping it is not a MOBA (the MOBA games arena is really over-saturated).

Could be great!

Yeah, there is enough MOBA like that
http://www.mmobomb.com/games/moba
The CE3 already have some kind of MOBA with Panza. And smite look enough popular like that.

If its a action rpg like vindictus or C9, why not as long as it really bring something new.

If its a action mmo like Black Desert ( that look totaly awesome btw ! ) that could be excelent, because we are lucky if we see a western version of black desert in 2-3years :/ ( we still dont have any clue of when Blade and soul is going to be release because of thoses damned Anet that do nothing.. so xD )

It seems funny to me that you bring up Smite as ax example of success in MOBAs, when it is at best #3 in the market, though it could be 4 (I am not sure how HoN is doing these days).

To be fair, Smite has really only been out for a year, if that, and the "hardcore" League kids stay away from it because it "copied" their precious League (which in turn copied Dota).

Speaking as someone who plays Smite (Level 26 :P), the community to me seems a lot better than the other MOBAs out there. Of course there are the usual toxic douchebags and people with gigantic egos (lol Solo Loki), but overall there seems to be fewer of them than in say, Dota 2. The average player, even at Level 30, just seems friendlier and more forgiving of mistakes.

Overall, it's a great experience, though Hi-Rez made some iffy balancing decisions recently (i.e.: Ah Muzen Cab got the nerf mallet hard this last patch and is now almost useless as an ADC).

Also being #3/#4 in such a saturated market is nothing to scoff at, and in my opinion being in the top 5 means you've done pretty well for yourself.

I have never really played Smite to be honest, so I can't comment on the community much :)

I said it look meaning i wasnt totaly sure of that :) ( tho the n°3 or 4 is not that bad after all ^^ ). I dont play moba games, not the kind of games i like.
I spoke about this one because its the only MOBA i know ( with panza ) in 3D using TP view. And i saw it many time on twitch ( sure clearly less than LOL or Dota2 )
And i suppose if Crytek Sofia release a game its going to be with CE3 so not with a simple RTS view like the majority of MOBA. ( of course if "Arena of fate" is a moba like )
