Post Topic: n88tr's models [WIP and Finished] Posted 11.09.2009, 20:59 |
For simplicity's sake I will put both serious WIP and finished models in one thread. As I get more work close to finish [WIP] and finished [Finished] I will post them up here. Yesterday I fixed some software issues and got a request done from another forum, a German WW2 Grenade. And just to clear up any confusion, since I started to seriously model I made an alias change to cahemdue. I also set up a website with that name, see my sig. I haven't updated the website yet with my newest models but I soon will.

I got a very nice sniper rifle scope done but got a lot of criticism for it being low poly when I thought it was high poly. They suggested I add more edges to the model so it looks more high poly, ie more realistic so I followed their advice. I got some advice for fixing the high poly version so parts of it don't look so mushy/low poly when I convert to smoothed version... Basically the solution is to add more geometry to it. In order to effectively do this I needed to split the model, add more edges to the areas that needed them, and then mirror the model [create the other half]. But for whatever retarded reason, Maya merges verts together that should not be merged when I tell it to mirror geometry. Thus I need to merge each vert by hand, connecting each side to form one model. Oh joy! Here is a pic of me working on the merging... And here is a pic of what I'm working with when I merge these verts, when I go into X-ray mode to see inside the model and grab the right verts, This is gonna take a while....

I fixed up my sniper rifle scope, merged all those pesky verts. The high poly looks much nicer I think. Green is default model, unsmoothed Yellow is Maya smoothed, slight sub-d Red is smoothed, regular sub-d Moving on to a concept laser rifle for Fallout 3.

Thanks Radcliff, your praise means a lot to me.
Wedgetail, it was based off a ref image... but sure I could make it longer if I needed to.
Thanks guys, the support means a lot to me.
Hopefully I have new model to show tomorrow, another gun, but a concept thing I smoked up, lol. No assignments in college in the near future, tomorrow is my off day from classes... modeling time!

I added a few more small edge loops inside the lenses on either end of the scope. And then added the scope to an older low-poly sniper rifle which I've been working on, adding polies and smoothing hard edges on it. It's gone through quite a change today... my off day from college classes. I'm tired now, making mistakes lol. I failed making a magazine 3 times, time to call it a night. Just wanted to share some progress of the implemented sniper scope on a weapon...
