Post Topic: [WIP] - Matrix APU Mech Posted 31.10.2009, 16:00 |
If you are a big fan of mech robots or the Matrix movie series, you will certainly like this news post, because today we will show you a completely new mech model called Matrix APU mech. The model was done by our forum member and apparently a very good modeler Soulblighter47, who already rigged the model as a vehicle. He showed us the working mech in a video posted below. The mech itself can fire with its two cannons which are attached to his moving arms, while the upper body acts as a turret. He is still working on animating the legs. The author is also planning to recreate Sion battle from Matrix 3 with the use of Sandbox 2. Here is some info about the mech, taken from the matrix wiki: Quote: The APU (Armored Personal Unit) was first seen in The Matrix Reloaded, but mostly seen in The Matrix Revolutions. They are hydraulic power suits designed for combat and defense of Zion. More than 120,000 units were produced, however by the time of the Battle of Zion, only 350 remain (although in screen when Mifune gives his speech there are only around 70 APUs present).. Its main armament are two 30mm cannons attached to its arms. All motion of the APU is controlled by the operator's hands, including its legs. A training program for safe operation is required.
APU ammunition is reloaded by hand from the back. To reload the cannons, a runner with a cart loaded with ammo would have to run out in the middle of the battle to jam the boxes of ammo into the APU. VideosAs stated before, the author of this modification posted 2 videos, the first one shows us the model in motion, while the second one concentrates on the models animations. The videos are seeable here, or you can click on of the links below to see a HD version of the video on YouTube. Video #1 Video #2 ScreenshotsSoulblighter47 also updated us with some in-game screenshots. As you can see, he also moded a destroyed version of the model. Along with the new screenshots, he also promised some more treats for us, for example some better animations and a destroyed model with independant moveable parts. And we are finished with today's news post, if you like this mod feel free to post some comments here, or do so at his official forum thread located here. Very nice job, though I'm quite sure it fires a lot faster in the film.

nice job, although the walking animation needs a lot of work. For example, the arms should bob up and down with each step, it would just make it seem more natural. Other than that though amazing work.

Beautyful model, Though it should shoot faster, and only bullets, no rockets. Animation must let is appear more heavy...
Read above, that's where the important stuff is...:easter:

Thanks Vigilante for posting my work in "news"! Actually I finished the APU here is the relative thread with two new videos. As promised I added arms animations and improved my leg movement. I put sounds synchronized to all animations and movements and add a motor sound. Destroyed model is very great with 11 differents moveable parts from the original model plus legs! To answer DaveB93, I decided to put rockets (only two) just because I love the explosion effect on mat_concrete which is the one I chose for the dome of Sion. And shoot only with guns is quitely boring when you can add the little challenge of when to use your 2 powerfull rockets! To answer Murdocr, I thought about arms animation during walk but due to some limitations I didn't insert it: I'm still fighting against a bug resetting turret position each time I play an arm animation so I decided to not animate arms during walk cycle. Others arms animations (engine on/off and aiming on/off) bad interacts too, but are less annoying cause most of the time you move the mouse during theses animations so the bug doesn't appear. If someone knows a way to make that bug disappear it will be very very cool to show me how! Before you ask me, I won't release the APU now for two reasons: -There is still some little problems (turret resetting) and I want to make better textures. -I want to release both the APU and the Sion map together. I'm currently working on the Sion map, work is huge but very easier than the APU. Sion is modeled about 40% for now, hardest work will be to texture it correctly!

Yes, please only use English here as otherwise it makes it very difficult to moderate and for other users to interpret.
Also stop posting in caps all the time. :/

It is really nice to hear that you put so much effort in this, it's much appreciated . Maybe you can make a new thread in the XSI section so one of the XSI pros reads it and can hopefully help you. Take your time.
