Thanks everybody. :)

Right now I'm just grinding through blocking out the level. I'm refining terrain and placing larger rock brushes to define the main pathways throughout the level.

Here's a random screenshot. Nothing special here, I just went way out into the ocean and took a shot. You can see much more of the sky elements. The planet is a skybox. The clouds and stars are 2 skydomes.

Looks nice! I was thinking, wouldn't it be pretty cool if the rings actually stretched out over the sky? By that I mean having the planet you're on so close to the gas giant that you can actually see the rings right over your head. Maybe that doesn't work physically in real life, it was just an idea I thought of. I think it might help with giving the player a sense of how massive the gas giant is.

Yeah, moving way out away from the level really puts the gas giant in perspective. It is massive, and Arthias orbits right on the edge of it's rings. If it we're orbiting within the rings you would see an even larger closeup of the gas giant on the horizon with the rings stretching across the sky from the east to west horizons. I'm pretty sure that would be impossible though, given the amount of gravity involved. Arthias would likely be ripped apart being in such a close orbit.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Does it have to be physically correct? I think it'd be a pretty mind-blowing view, if it's done right. Maybe you can make the ice in the rings (or whatever it consists of) reflect light or something, making it sparkle from the ground.

I second that. That is one of the biggest benefits you have in 3D art, especially in the area of fantasy and science fiction: you don't have to rely on real world physics and from time to time it just gives a better gameplay or visual experience when you back off one step from reality for this reason.

Cheers

Nice ocean with foam and everything. Just type r_motionblur 0 when you take photos of maps with ocean in it. The blur looks undersampled.

Links to Xzero's Solar System Models and Silent.'s High-Resolution Foliage are broken - does anyone know what happened to these assets/where I can find them?
