Post Topic: "yet to be titled" - Horror story. my map for 2012

G'day all.
it's been some time since my last visit here, been very busy with commitments and work but safe to say my previous maps are safe and backed up. unfortunatly my 32 bit laptop can't handle big maps as iv'e found out. So the story with those maps is they are available if anyone wishes to ask for them "as is" for those with 64 bit machines may want to finish what i could not or to take them anyway to enjoy what ive managed to do so far.
Now. onto 2012, ive begun a small map recently that ive spent much time planning, and this will be a horror short. the parameters when i began this map was a map size of 256x256 so its much easier to acomplish this one without running out of memory. Anyways i hope you take a peak and tell me what you think so far, and thankyou .

Haha. well you could say there's influence from both resident evil and silent hill here. but any similarities are purely coincidental./ im a big resident evil fan so maybe it comes acroos in this map. but either way i want it to be my own style and my own ideas. some slow spooky cutscenes will help in here. but im still working on a video to show as its better than just pictures. you'll have to forgive me ive bought afew games recently, ff13-2, resident evil revalations, metal gear solid HD set, and dead rising. but ill still be focused on this as much as possible! what do you think, too dark? not dark enough? im finally getting the look i want down, using indirect light with fire particles nearby can produce an awesome atmosphere

Oh my.. it's freaking scary.. love it ! Awesome work, level design and atmosphere are the best i've seen so far: every single object seems to be put in a certain way to increase the sense of fear and suspence..
Three things you gotta work on, though: the flashlight (limited-time flashlight + battery packs scattered throughout the map would be a good idea also) and the lights in general (maybe add some more, maybe broken ones, to add even more atmosphere).. and the charachters (they're good but not perfect ).. the level seems so big though ! How much time have you been working on it ? o.O

thanks alot Honestly, it's only afew weeks of work so far. im getting into the groove of doing a hell of a lot of mapping every time i sit down to do this. i can spend over 12 hours fixed on it at a time, exept for the odd breaks. Yeah i'm trying to clutter up the place in a way that forces you to be bottlenecked down narrow walkways etc to make it more clastrophobic!
love your flashlight idea! now how could i make this.. using flowgraphs? i dont know, i mean ive definatly been more interested in making things move like people flying helicopters and driving around and entering buildings etc to get down the mechanics of the sandbox 2 more than concerning with level design.. which has been a blessing as ive been able to make somewhat intricate battles etc.. but im still rather a novice with making things like you said about the flashlight possible at the moment.
True afew broken lights will help. i am getting indirect lights that tend to "turn off" when i turn around somewhat which is annoying but you dont really notice it when playing anyway.
And thanks again. yeah im trying to make the level "look" big, actually you wouldn't believe but the map size is 256x256. mainly due to my laptop limitations, however i have, as you've seen been able make quiet alot here. and its only sitting around 700Mb. so i still have about 600 or 700Mb space i can accomodate for. Anything else you'd like to know just write here and i'l be sure to reply swiftly. thanks.
