It appears they do not have any problems like NVIDIA :/ AMD always has supply issues at the beginning too. Also, Charlie hates NV, so I wouldn't trust anything he says about GPUs. Ugh, wondered what happened to that guy after he stopped posting on Inquirer. Ahh, i miss OCAU

Seems like a great GPU, although I've heard the first models have issues with the DisplayPort output so I'll wait a bit before ordering.

I wish I could afford new hardware like this.

If I had the money.....
Really though, I'd wait. the 4gb models are coming soon. 2gb is pretty small these days, especially with all the crazy rez options available now (3x 30" or whatever).

Well supposedly the cryengine performance on the GTX is primarily limited by memory bandwidth, that's what SLI is particularly good for right? So it makes sense I guess.
I'd like to see some microstuttering stats before warming to SLI though.
Not that I could ever afford SLI :V

I think the GTX680 is really competitive. Overall performances are higher than 7970 and price is cheaper. Also, power consumption / efficiency is very impressive compared with Fermi. But the tight bandwitch and moderate memory might be tricky in some cases. I read anandtech review and noticed Crysis Warhead results : 7970 gets 42 FPSmin while GTX680 gets 35 FPSmin in 1920 Enthousiast AA4x. Thats significant I think.

Uhm, looks like 7970 would be able to achieve similar results too, though I don't really like/trust benchmarks. :/

What do I trust ? Well, me. Trying them personally or watching their performance live, lol.

essentially any new tech we get it our hand at a reasonable cost is exciting. I will wait for the 7xx series or 8xx before i upgrade. here is why. 1 Keplar has dropped bit rate for heat consumption 2 Fermi will still be a heavy contender for a while yet 3 Keplar requires specialized shader presets to take advantage of the new speed boost technology. 3 fermi will still perform amazing with AAA titles that do not support TXAA 4 Games will not start taking advantage of these new shaders for at least a year or 2 after release 5 Keplar cards will not take advantage of DX 11.1 beacause we are still waiting for most companies to get on board with DX11 there are still only a handful of companies using DX11 the sad part about new tech and hardware is you really need to wait till half way through the Series life to buy in cause the tech will only be pushing new boundaries once they reach the limit of it's potential. no matter how much money you spend you are always 1 step behind the best tech. by the time it is a good time to invest next gen is around the corner it is a viscous cycle. I don't mean to sound pessimistic about anything i just drop money on my PC every year and I learn what i can as it happens so i try to make the best decisions I can based on the consumer market and my personal needs. but essentially for now I only buy Nvidia and Intel products because it is directly supported by Maya 2012 Mudbox and the Software I use Ati and Amd is not supported buy most Autodesk products. the software will work but works best for the software I use.

Quote by SnowGecko: 1 Keplar has dropped bit rate for heat consumption The current 680 was intended to be a midrange card, and it shows pretty hard in the specs. Quote: 2 Fermi will still be a heavy contender for a while yet Fermi gets demolished by Kepler in every benchmark. Hell the midrange Kepler keeps up with the 590 in most tests. Quote: 3 Keplar requires specialized shader presets to take advantage of the new speed boost technology.
Not at all. Quote: 3 fermi will still perform amazing with AAA titles that do not support TXAA if by well you mean gets half the performance, then yes "well". Quote: 4 Games will not start taking advantage of these new shaders for at least a year or 2 after release So? Quote: 5 Keplar cards will not take advantage of DX 11.1 beacause we are still waiting for most companies to get on board with DX11 there are still only a handful of companies using DX11 This is the perfect time to upgrade then, as when studios start making DX11 more mainstream its requirements are going to go up quickly.

I'm probably going to give this card a pass, even though as an avid nVidia fan, I would normally get the next new card every year and a half (unless it's not very stable or durable). I'm satisfied with my 580, as it's one of the best-built cards to date (I guess it's comparable to being the 8800gt of today), and this Summer I'm buying another so that I can do some funkolicious SLI. Then I'll probably wait for two or three years until I move out to the UK to upgrade again, and at the same time I'll replace my Core i7 920 (which has been serving me ever so faithfully).

Since when is this a midrange card? It's named and priced like a high end unit.

The confusion comes from the fact that it uses a GK104 chip, not a GK100. Typically, 100/110's are the flagship chip while a 104/114 or reserved for mid-range cards. Aside from the fact that it uses a '4' in the chip name, everything points to this being a flagship card, the price, performance increase, the model number, the fact that it's released first are all flagship traits. Rumour has it we'll see a "GTX780" using the GK100 chip at some point but this would make it a whole new generation meaning that the 680 will still remain this generations flagship.
