Hey,

Forgive me for posting this in the wrong place, but I couldn't find where to place it. I am trying to work with the most recent release of the CryEngine 3 SDK 3.4.0 and every time I try and load the level that came with the kit (the forest) my display driver crashes and so does the editor.
I have a Radeon HD 5770 which is going to be replaced this summer, but I would like to use the editor until then. Here is the log that the editor spits out after everything goes to hell. Thanks for any help or redirection to a different forum.

On a side note, I can get the editor to run when a new level is created but when I go into the 'game mode' (CTRL G) the sun rises and sets very quickly, and I can't get it to stop or slow down. Thanks again.

By adding this to your system.cfg you can get around the crash although it's just a temporary fix:

r_GeomInstancing = 0


If you don't want to disable GeomInstancing, you'll have to downgrade to DX9 for the moment:

r_driver = DX9

The Art of War ... All I can say is thank you so very much! I added the command to the system.cfg file and the level opened up like a dream. If you happen to know, what is GeomInstancing for (just a rough rundown), and what problems might I run into while that is disabled?

Also... Since I am planning to replace my graphics card, any tips on what to buy that will both great for gaming as well as running the CryEngine SDK and engine smoothly... say under or around $400 USD?

Geometry instancing is an optimisation feature that doesn't play nicely with tessellation atm. Nvidia drivers handle the error ok but AMD drivers react in a less than stellar fashion as you've seen.

As Ruan said (because CryTek are using mostly Nvidia..) the CE3SDK runs better with Nvidia drivers, so why not get a GTX570 with ~1 GB VRAM or something?

Not really, I'm not a level designer, although if you're running DX9 you don't need to disable GeomInstancing (if it runs in DX9 aswell of course), only in DX11.

Currently Im using an older version (3.3.9) which works fine, but id like to use the 3.4.0 with the dx11 ofc... :/

YOSH!!
3.4.0 works for me now with dx11!!!
Im not able to create levels with the 3.4.0.
So what I did is create a level in the 3.3.9 and open it up with the 3.4.0!

I got this in my 3.4.0 system.cfg
r_GeomInstancing = 0
It might work without aswell. I didn't tried out yet.
