Post Topic: Emissive light on Walls Posted 29.05.2012, 13:33 |
Hey guys, I want to make a light tape (like the Tron movie) in sci-fi corridors that will emit light. Do you know what kind of material I should use and generally some kind of tutorial about it?
Do I need to put an Alpha Map wherever I want to emit light and with an appropriate shader or glow effect in Cry Engine I will be able to achieve such a result?
Thx for your time and help

With a Glow effect in the material you can make the surface appear as if it casts light, but you still need to place regular Light entities for actual light emission. Due to the deferred rendering in Cryengine you should be able to use relatively many lightsources as long as you don't make them cast shadows.

Thought i just jump in and ask..what's the preferred light type to use in said situation?

Light type? The only Light object you should be using is Light. Don't make them cast shadows if you're using many.

If you're using a lot of glowing surfaces, environment probes are your best bet: No environment probe: 1 environment probe (diffuse only) 1 environment probe (with specular) A single environment probe can lit an entire room and you get excellent reflections too. EDIT: No lights or reflections: SSR reflections (no probes or lights) 1 environment probe (no SSR reflections) 1 environment probe + SSR reflections:

I still can't manage to do something like that... I made a diffuse map and a specular map which is black background like the picture and with white i made the area that I want to glow, but it's not working...hmm http://freesdk.crydev.net/display/SDKDOC2/Glow+EffectThx again

Did you actually enable Glow, save the glow intensity in the alpha channel of the diffuse (it's not a specular map) and tick "glow in diffuse alpha"?

Hey guys, I figured it out why it wasn't working haha I wasn't using the CryTif plugin for Photoshop to export it. Even though I was making an alpha channel it wasn't working so now it's perfect thx for your time btw
